Beer growlers have been sprouting up all over metro Atlanta within the last two years.

In the North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area, we now have two. Beer Growler Nation opened in Oak Grove late last year, and Draft Filling Station has opened at 2162 Briarcliff Road near Lavista Road. The shop, which opened its doors in January, sells 64-oz. growlers of beer from more than 40 selections of beer and hard cider on tap and several wines.

Owner Hans Bedeck dropped Patch a line last week and mentioned some of the environmentally friendly aspects of his business:

Druid Hills is a very environmentally conscious area of Atlanta and we believe we currently run one of the most environmentally friendly businesses in the area. Growlers [and Kegs!] are a much more earth-friendly alternative to cans and bottles because they can be used indefinitely. Even though cans and bottles can be recycled, it still costs money and energy to do so. Moreover, at DRAFT Filling Station, all of the lighting in the show area of the store are high efficiency LED lights that use minimal energy. Finally, we donate, recycle or reuse almost everything else in the store... In fact, the store only produces one 13-gallon bag of trash per week!

The result: Buying and drinking Craft Beer from DRAFT is the Earth-Friendlier way to drink fresh, draft beer. Ultimately, we feel strongly that I think this would be a pretty interesting story for Patch because it lets people in the area know that there are businesses around that are also very environmentally conscious and are working towards a green community!
