More police could hit the streets across the North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area in the next several months, according to the Medlock Area Neighborhood Association.

Thirteen more officers and another sergeant are slated for the Center Precinct, which includes the North Druid Hills area, DeKalb County police told the Medlock Neighborhood Watch group at its regular meeting Wednesday. Several start Sunday, the association reported on its website.

The center precinct does include higher crime areas, however, including those around Memorial Drive southeast of the city of Decatur.

DeKalb County police have been under fire throughout the area over the last several months as several groups have sought to create new cities from Tucker to the North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area and as far south as Druid Hills. Frustration with county police and local control over public safety has been a primary subject of those discussions.

Here's more helpful information from the association's post:

Most burglaries are happening during the day while people are at work, when no cars are in the driveway.  Make it appear that someone could be home.  Leave a tv or radio on loud enough so that someone coming to your door or window may think that someone is home.  A light on helps as well.

For more helpful tips given to the Neighborhood Watch group, read the full association post.
