A man tried to sell his iPhone from his Arbor Hills apartment Jan. 4, but when the buyer arrived, he was carrying a handgun, demanding much more than a smartphone.
The 58-year-old victim told DeKalb County police that he placed an ad on craigslist to sell his Apple iPhone 5. The suspect contacted the seller and said he wanted to buy it, the police report said. The victim told the buyer to come to his apartment in the 300 block of Druid Oaks Drive.
When the suspect arrived, the victim showed him the iPhone and told him the price. The suspect said he needed to go to an ATM to get more money. The suspect returned shortly before 6 p.m., and when the victim opened the door, the suspect pointed a black 9mm pistol at the victim's forehead and forced his way into the apartment.
The suspect made him st on the floor in his office while the suspect searched desk drawers. He demanded the iPhone and also stole an iPad. The suspect searched the apartment, also stealing a gold chain and $3,500 in cash before he fled.
The suspect was described as a black male about 5 feet 11 inches tall, 155 pounds, wearing a green and red jacket and blue jeans.
The victim was not injured.
