Thousands in jewelry stolen from apartment
Thousands of dollars in jewelry and other expensive items were stolen from an apartment in The Conservatory of Druid Hills on North Druid Hills Road on Wednesday, DeKalb County police said.
The 36-year-old victim told police she left her apartment at about 7:15 a.m. and found it ransacked when she returned at about 8:25 a.m., the police report said. The front door was forced ajar.
About $7,000 in jewelry was stolen and more than $2,000 in expensive designer bags were taken as well.
Oak Grove townhome broken into, nothing taken
An Oak Grove man's townhome was broken into Dec. 28, but nothing was stolen, DeKalb County police said.
The man, 33, told police he left his home in the 2400 block of Oak Grove Vista at about 4:30 p.m., the police report said. He returned at about 8 p.m. and saw the living room light on, but quickly left before entering to head to the store. When he returned 15 minutes later, the light was off and the front door was open.
He called police, and after the house was cleared, nothing had been taken from the residence. A responding officer noted damage to the front door and the striker plate on the door frame.
Man claims former caregiver helped try to steal his car, assault him
An Atlanta man told DeKalb County police his former caregiver and her boyfriend assaulted him, tried to steal his car and stole his dog on Dec. 30.
The 63-year-old who lives in the 500 block of Reserve Court met with a DeKalb County officer at the Shell gas station at 2995 North Druid Hills Road and said the caregiver arrived at his home with her boyfriend shortly after 6 a.m., saying she needed to pick up items she left there, the police report said.
She also said she needed a ride to her new home in Snellville, and the victim agreed. While driving them, the victim said he felt uncomfortable with the suspects in the vehicle and pulled over to a gas station at an unknown location to call police. (The victim could not say which department he called.) When police arrived, the victim said they told him to just take the suspects where they wanted to go.
The victim said he continued to drive them, but the caregiver's boyfriend, at some point, hit him in the head with a shovel and said, "I'm going to kill you." The victim stopped the car and the suspects got out and tried to pull the victim from the car. He told police he was able to drive away, but the suspects stole his dog in the process. He said he drove around for two hours before he was able to flag someone down to call the police.
A responding officer noted the victim had several cuts on the back of his head. He was taken to Grady Hospital for treatment.
