A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, for a new public works and maintenance facilty for the City of Decatur and the City Schools of Decatur.
The city is renovating the old public works building at 2635 Tally St. and building an addition.
The city commission voted in September to budget $7.9 million for the project. The contract was awarded to Hogan Construction of Norcross, which submitted the low bid of $6.4 million.
The department has temporarily moved into 9,400 square feet of leased office-warehouse space at 2716 E. Ponce de Leon Ave. The administrative offices are operating out of 811 Church St.
Completion of the project is expected in mid-2013.
