A man attempted to rob the Piccadilly Restaurant in Tucker on Wednesday afternoon by pointing a gun at staff and demanding money.

But then he lost his nerve and ran away.

The incident happened when the man entered the restaurant on Crescent Centre Boulevard and threatened workers. He was met with resistance, fled, and remains at large.

"He got scared," manager Paul Escarra told Patch. "He was in and out real quick."

Escarra described the man as black, about 6 ft. tall, and in his mid-20s. "It's hard to say what he looked like 'cause he was wearing a hoodie and a red bandana over his mouth," he said.

He added that no staff or customers were hurt. "Everyone is safe, and we're very happy about that," he said, "but a few people got shook up."

An officer on the scene declined to talk about the crime but she told Patch that the staff at Piccadilly "are like family."

That's hardly surprising. The eatery is across the street from DeKalb County Police Headquarters.
