Lakeside Trounced, Druid Hills Loses in Weekend Football

The Tucker Tigers (8-2) secured a No. 3 seed for the Class AAAAA state playoffs with a come-from-behind 14-7 victory over Mays (5-5) on Friday night at Adams Stadium.

Mays held a 7-0 lead at the half with a touchdown as the half was coming to a close.

Dallas Rivers helped knot the game at 7-7 on a 20-yard scoring run in the third quarter. Yaquis Shelley gave the Tigers the 14-7 win with a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown.  Dominick Sanders contributed an interception on defense to aid the second half shutout of the Mays offense.

Tucker advances into the playoffs with a trip to Creekview in the opening round.

Carlos Garrett’s interception in overtime preserved a 21-14 victory to give the No. 2 ranked Martin Luther King Jr. Lions their second consecutive undefeated regular season.

Roland Rivers had connected with Demarquis Polite-Bray on a 13-yard touchdown pass in the Lions’ part of overtime to take the lead.

The Lions had a touchdown run by Donald Clark and Wesley Green had his second interception return for a touchdown this season to account for the other scores for Martin Luther King which heads into the Class AAAAA state high school football playoffs at 10-0 against either Pope or Sequoyah on Friday night at Hallford Stadium.

Clarkston 54, North Cobb Christian 14
Khalif Harper exploded for 236 yards rushing and five touchdowns to lead the Clarkston Angoras to a 54-14 win over North Cobb Christian on Friday night.

The Angoras, coached by Gary Wansley, finished 5-5 on the season. It is the Angoras first non-losing season since going 7-5 in 1998 under Coach Larry Jester.

SW DeKalb 33, Dunwoody 12
The Southwest DeKalb Panthers secured their fifth consecutive state football playoff with a 33-12 victory over Dunwoody on Friday night at North DeKalb Stadium.

Clayton Davenport had touchdown runs of 56 and 25 yards to go along with 136 yards rushing to lead the Panthers (7-3) in the victory. Roman Coats added two touchdowns in the game and Malik Wright gave the Panthers two runners with over 100 yards on the night as he rushed for 105 yards.

Southwest DeKalb will go into the Class AAAAA state playoffs as the No. 4 seed from Region 6 which means a road date at Kell (9-1) on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
