After announcing plans to replace the old Atlanta Diner on North Druid Hills Road, McDonald's said they also hope to open a new restaurant with a drive-thru window across from Briarcliff Shopping Center – the international fast food chain's second location on Clairmont Road.
From Tomorrow's News Today, which first reported this story:
A preliminary meeting about the planned McDonald's was held earlier this week and was attended by both homeowners and representatives from McDonald's. As it stands now, McDonald's is expected to file paperwork in the coming days requesting a special land use permit to enable them to have the drive-thru windows they need for the restaurant. If all goes well, this request will be heard at the next Community Council meeting, scheduled for Wednesday December 19th at 6:30 at the Mack Love Center in Decatur.
The North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area already has a number of McDonald's locations. They are:
- 3893 North Druid Hills Road
- 2881 Clairmont Road NE
- 2077 North Decatur Road
- 3893 Lavista Road
That Briarcliff-Clairmont intersection area is going through a mini-renaissance (if you can call it that) with a new QuikTrip almost ready for drivers and a bunch of cool, little restaurants like Desta, the Ethiopian joint.
If you look at a map, you could make the argument that the area could use another McDonald's (or, at least, the company could make money with another). Or is it all just too much?
