Have something to say about the possibility that Decatur will annex about 2,000 people into the city?
Then come to a public meeting 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22 in city hall. The annexation page on the city website describes how the meeting will go.
The format of the meeting will include an opening presentation at 6:00pm; questions and answers at 6:30pm and general public comments from 7:00pm–8:00pm. The City Commission will take public comments from residents of the City of Decatur as well as residents and property owners in the area proposed for annexation.
The city held another public meeting back in August, when officials released some of the numbers gathered to that point. The main ones: 2,028 people would be added to the city of about 19,000, including 230 school-age children.
The big question about annexation is how it would affect the city school system.
The city also released this timeline, which has the city commission deciding whether to move ahead on Dec. 3.
Here are some previous Patch stories about annexation.
