- St. Pius' Standard Records 100th Career Victory: This isn't a story that's going to get a lot of clicks (and it was a slow news week in the North Druid Hills-Briarcliff) but this was a fairly important story to me. St. Pius has a pretty incredible athletics program. Good for them.
- It’s Time for DeKalb Residents to 'Get a Bin': I was surprised by how much traffic this letter to the editor from Commissioner Kathie Gannon got. People seem to really dig recycling. Perhaps there's hope for us yet.
- Good Growth DeKalb Still Looking for Legal Case Against Walmart: North Druid Hills-Briarcliff Patch looks at this issue almost anthropologically. We don't necessarily deny many of the critical things said about Walmart at a national and international level. All of it's important food for thought and worth considering, particularly in these distressed times. But Suburban Plaza has been a shopping center for decades. Shopping centers often include big box stores. Walmart is a big box store. Selig Enterprises didn't have the zoning changed. (Yes, they got a variance, but that was relatively minor.) At the same time, the residents in this area have every right to go after the company and Selig in the way they have. If they don't like Walmart, they have a right to say it, and they even have a right to try and stop it if they can find a legal way to do so. So far, Walmart is coming, and it looks increasingly like if Good Growth DeKalb wants to stop this thing, they're going to have to find something to take Walmart to court on. I'm completely fascinated as to what that something might be.
- Man Robs Northlake Bank: No gun involved here (probably), but it's still amazing to me how easy it is to rob a bank. This sort of thing happens all the time.
- Medlock Yard Sale to Support Rinehart Family: A community rallies. Good to see.
