Johns Homestead supporters are among those in favor of putting a new $8 million animal shelter site next to DeKalb-Peachtree Airport.
That's the word from a meeting Tuesday attended by more than 50 county residents, who want DeKalb leaders to narrow their considerations to the PDK site only, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The five-acre site in Chamblee would be preferable, for financial reasons, and out of respect for the homestead's history, said Mary Ann Roberts, according to the article: “PDK would be a much, much better and much cheaper location to go to than destroying a homestead that has been here since 1825."
Roberts is part of a community effort to create a nature preserve on the homestead's 50 acres.
