A woman was leaving her apartment off Lavista Road near Northlake in the evening on Thursday, May 23, when she encountered a man standing in the middle of the walkway. He was exposing himself to the 51-year-old.
"You like this?" he said, according to a DeKalb County police report. "You want this?"
The woman ran away and called police several days later.
The incident is one of several similar encounters residents have reported to county police in the Lavista Crossing apartment complex just south of Northlake's busy commercial corridor over the last several weeks.
One such incident occurred early Tuesday morning, police said. A 24-year-old woman was alone in her ground level apartment in the living room when her dog began barking at a window. She noticed the blinds on the window were broken, and she worried that someone could see into the apartment, so she placed a large picture in front of the opening.
Fifteen minutes later, shortly after midnight, the victim heard a noise on the patio. When she looked, she noticed a figure standing behind the patio door. She approached the patio and saw the suspect with his pants down. The man pulled up his pants and jumped over the patio railing. The woman ran outside and threw a stick at the suspect who fled into the wooded area that runs along Hudson Road.
Another incident involving a 41-year-old woman in the apartment complex occurred beginning late Friday night on May 17, police said. The woman said she noticed a man standing on her porch, looking into her apartment shortly after 11 p.m. She said she screamed and the man fled. About six hours later, a nearby witness saw the same man walk to the woman's living room window and try to open it.
"What are you doing?" the witness screamed.
The suspect fled through the bushes.
In all incidents, the suspect's description is fairly similar: a white male between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall between 130 and 160 pounds. He has brown, medium-length hair described as messy or "beach-cut" and wore dark-frame glasses. One description said he was in his early to mid-50s.
