Briarcliff Construction, Road Closures to Continue Until February

Water main projects near Snellville, Lilburn and Norcross to begin in September.

Motorists who frequently drive along Briarcliff Road have noticed electronic signs over the last week or two alerting them to find an alternate route to their destination due to construction. That's never a good sign for our clogged transportation arteries.

But you can expect that issue to continue unfortunately.

DeKalb County is replacing the main waterline along the road – a project that will last until February, according to a notice the county sent residents near the roadwork. The project is forcing the county to close the street partially or completely from Shallowford Road to Henderson Mill Road during construction hours. But no street closure is expected to last more than seven hours at a time, the notice said.

Here is the rest of the notice from GS Construction, which is doing the work:

We ask for your cooperation in trying to keep children away from the work area, equipment, signs and notices. Construction in your vicinity may not take place in one continuous time period as there are several phases of construction. It also may not extend for the entire period between September 2012 through February 2013). Except for special circumstances, normal work hours will be between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The work is expected to be completed by February 2013 barring unforeseen problems and weather conditions. Every effort will be made to complete this essential work as quickly as possible and with the least inconvenience to your residence and community. We anticipate minimal disturbance to your yard. Your assistance and cooperation during the construction period is crucial and appreciated.

During construction, Marc Smith, with GS Construction, Inc. can be contacted for any concerns at (404) 557-6943. If he cannot be reached, please call Monty Rawls, Construction Manager for Atkins, representing DeKalb County at 678-758-7728.
