Loehmann's Plaza Looking for Grocery Store?

Is Loehmann's Plaza on Briarcliff Road looking to bring in a grocery store?

Regency Centers, the Jacksonville, Fla., company that owns the shopping center, would love to have a grocery store anchoring their shopping center, said Leslie Mintz, a company leasing agent, last week in an interview with Patch.

The company's comments come two months after news in February of a merger between Office Max and Office Depot. Both office supply companies operate stores in North Druid Hills, and national news reports of the merger have suggested store consolidations could be necessary in places where the companies operate stores close together.

A store manager at Office Max on Monday said he'd heard no news of a closure. But Mintz said most of Regency's shopping centers are anchored by grocery stores.

"We would love to have a grocery store there one day" if Office Max closed, Mintz said. "We are ready to talk to all of the grocery stores that are interested."

Mintz also said her company is planning to bring in a new restaurant to replace Cheers Beer & Wine, which recently left the center. She declined to offer more details.
