St. Pius X spring sports were back in action last week after most took time off during spring break. Boys' soccer remains No. 1 while the girls' soccer team dropped to No. 3 in the scoreatl.com polls. Baseball also fell in the rankings to No. 7 in AAA, and girls’ lacrosse continues to sit in the No. 7 spot in the A-AAAAA rankings.
Baseball took its only game of the week with a 6-4 win over Woodward. The Golden Lions (12-4) used seven combined strikeouts from Michael Krill and Jack Spear in the victory. Justin Yestrumsky led the way at the plate, going 2-3 with a home run while Branden Mitchell added an RBI single. St. Pius X is back in action with three games this week, hosting Cross Keys and Towers on Monday and Friday, while travelling on Wednesday to Decatur.
Boys’ soccer moved its record to 10-0-2 as the Golden Lions won its only match of the week. J.D. Manzo and Calvin Jackson scored a goal apiece in a 2-1 win over Blessed Trinity. St. Pius X will hit the road for two games this week, playing at Milton on Tuesday night before travelling to region rival Woodward on Friday evening.
Girls' soccer took both matches last week to run its record to 11-1-3 on the year. The Golden Lions defeated No. 1 Blessed Trinity, 2-0 and Lovett, 3-0. Amanda Vocelka and Caroline Wootten scored one goal respectively in each game while Hannah Smith recorded both shutouts. The ladies will travel to Milton on Tuesday and Woodward on Friday.
Boys' tennis knocked off Wesleyan, 4-1, in the only match of the week. Austin Boaz, Austin Causey and Michael Malina all took wins at singles for the Golden Lions. The girls’ team lost 4-1 to Wesleyan. Both teams begin the Region 6-AAA tournament Tuesday at the DeKalb Tennis Center.
Boys’ lacrosse had its lone game postponed due to weather. The squad will travel to North Atlanta on Tuesday evening before entertaining Greenbrier on Friday night.
Girls' lacrosse dropped an 11-9 decision to Peachtree Ridge. The Golden Lions (8-3) will host Southwest DeKalb on Monday and will travel to Grayson on Friday afternoon.
Boys’ golf will host the 14th Annual Golden Lion Challenge on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Laurel Springs Golf Club. The girls’ golf team will be in action next week at the Region Tournament.
