A Lakeside City Alliance fundraiser planned for Tuesday in Northlake was canceled last week after several anti-alliance Facebook groups threatened to boycott and protest the restaurant holding the event, the alliance said.
From a newsletter the alliance emailed to supporters Sunday:
We are disappointed to announce that our event at Marlow's Tavern (4/2/13) has been cancelled. We have learned that Marlow's was threatened with a boycott, picketing and media coverage of the protest if they allowed LCA to hold the event at the restaurant. This effort to strong-arm Marlow's was assisted by several anti-LCA Facebook groups, including "Save Tucker from Lakeside" and "Tucker Town Talk". Marlow's Tavern is a great neighborhood business, and we understand their concern for protecting their business from negative media coverage. It is very disappointing that friends and neighbors will not have the opportunity to spend money at Marlow's and learn about LCA next Tuesday night. We will announce a new venue for this informal gathering this week.
Alliance Chairman Mary Kay Woodworth told Patch on Friday the alliance was rescheduling the event for after spring break so it would be better-attended.
A manager at Marlow's Tavern directed questions about the event to a general manager who was not working Sunday night.
